At Appletree we can construct interior or exterior Ledged, Ledged and Braced, or Framed Ledged and Braced doors and Ledged and Braced Stable Doors. To help you understand the options, see the following for a further explanation:

Ledged
Ledged doors are constructed from individual boards or battens that run vertically and held with two or more horizontal “ledges”. The ledges are usually thicker pieces of timber and extend across all of the vertical battens. Ledged doors are particularly good for internal use.

Ledged and Braced
Ledged and Braced doors are constructed in the same manner as Ledged doors, but with additional boards that run diagonally between the ledges for a stronger, sturdier door. Ledged and Braced doors are used where stronger internal doors are required or external use in workshops or outbuildings.

Framed Ledged and Braced
Framed Ledged and Braced doors are true to their name. The Ledged and Braced door is constructed within a frame protecting and strengthening the boards vertically and horizontally. This type of door is most used for external home doors or where stronger doors are required.

Ledged and Braced Stable Doors
Ledged and Braced Stable Doors are the same as Ledged and Braced doors but with two halves so that the bottom half can be closed, leaving the top half open. Most Stable doors will have two ledges each for the top and bottom halves of the door.

Our doors are made fit for purpose to allow for your size and style requirements. In fact, we have never had a request for two the same, so we have an array of examples. We use a selection of different timber thicknesses, widths and profiles (sometimes in the same door). We also use a selection of different methods to fix the boards to the ledges.
Our materials include new as well as reclaimed timber. We can construct from hard or soft woods and supply to you unfinished or stained. Glazing can be accommodated if you wish. We use hand forged furniture including locks as required.

We specialize in antiquing or aging of wood creating a distressed look that blends nicely with cottage homes.

As usual, our projects are turn key unless otherwise specified so installation is included at your convenience.
